Description

Holders of the ICMA™ Advanced Card Education – Manufacturing (ACE-M) certificate have demonstrated broad knowledge of the materials, processes, technologies, and quality requirements involved in card manufacturing. The certification covers the principal stages of the manufacturing process, from the selection of plastics, inks, and adhesives through printing, lamination, die-cutting, and final product testing.

Section 1: PVC and Plastics

  • The properties and characteristics of materials used in card manufacturing
  • The structure and construction of plastic card products
  • The relationship between material thickness, tolerances, performance, and cost
  • The selection and handling of substrates used during card production
  • Common material-related defects and their possible causes

Section 2: Inks

  • The composition and properties of inks used in card printing
  • The role of pigments, binders, solvents, and additives
  • Ink drying and curing through processes such as evaporation, oxidation, penetration, and radiation curing
  • The relationship between ink solids, wet deposits, and dried coating thickness
  • Factors affecting ink adhesion, colour, durability, and print performance

Section 3: Adhesives

  • The purpose and properties of adhesives used in card construction
  • Different adhesive systems and their suitability for particular materials and applications
  • The influence of temperature, pressure, time, and surface preparation on adhesive performance

Section 4: Printing

Conditions requises

Candidates for the ICMA™ Advanced Card Education – Manufacturing (ACE-M) exam should have a minimum of two years of professional experience in the card industry.

Relevant experience may include working in one or more of the following areas:

  • Card manufacturing or production
  • Card personalization or service-bureau operations
  • Materials, equipment, or other products and services supplied to the card industry

Candidates are strongly encouraged to prepare using the official ICMA™ ACE-M learning materials and to complete relevant training before taking the exam. Practical experience with card materials and manufacturing processes will also support preparation for the technical and calculation-based examination questions.

The ICMA™ ACE-M designation is a standalone certification. Candidates are not required to hold the ICMA™ ACE-P or ICMA™ ACE-A designation before taking the ACE-M exam.
